Shopify product image — the right size

Drop your images in — everyimg crops them square to 2048 × 2048 px and compresses below 300 KB. Enough pixels for the zoom feature, small enough for fast load times. Batch-process your whole catalog with ZIP download.

Square 2048 × 2048 px is the Shopify standard — enough pixels for the zoom feature, JPG for maximum compatibility.

Why 2048 × 2048 pixels?

It is Shopify's own recommendation for product images: it reliably enables the zoom/lens feature (which unlocks at roughly 800 px per side), looks tack-sharp on Retina displays, and gives Shopify's image system enough headroom for all thumbnail variants. The same size also works for WooCommerce, Amazon (zoom from 1000 px) and eBay — one 2048 master covers virtually every sales channel.

Don't forget the file size

Many stores upload sharp but far too heavy images — 3–5 MB per product photo. With 20 products on a collection page that's 60+ MB and several seconds of load time; over half of mobile visitors bounce. Target: under ~300 KB per product image. everyimg automatically finds the highest quality that fits that budget.

Tip for consistent product shots

Shoot with a bit of margin around the product so nothing important is lost in the square crop. If the product sits off-center, shift the frame under “Adjust crop focus”. Afterwards you can hand the result straight to the format converter if a channel needs JPG instead of WebP.

Frequently asked questions

What size do Shopify product images need?

Shopify recommends square product images at 2048 × 2048 pixels. The zoom feature needs at least 800 × 800 px — below that, customers cannot zoom in. The upload maximum is 5000 × 5000 px / 20 MB.

Why do my Shopify images look blurry?

This is the most asked question in Shopify forums. The cause is almost always an undersized original: Retina displays (iPhones!) render at double pixel density — an image that looks sharp on Android can look soft on an iPhone. At 2048 × 2048 px you are on the safe side.

Why should all product images share the same aspect ratio?

Shopify themes arrange products in a grid of equal cards. Mixed formats create unevenly tall tiles and make the grid look messy. A consistent 1:1 is the de-facto standard.
